Can you use straight sugar marine to feed hummingbirds?
Sure - you have to thaw out the sugar into a syrup in the water (I truly do it by heating it in a pot on the stove so that it melt properly) -- they LOVE it! When 'our' hummingbirds come back in the spring, they in truth come to our glass sliding doors and tap to consent to us know it's time to put the feeders back out! They don't need any coloring surrounded by the syrup either -- they love the bright reds and pinks and are drawn to it, but most feeders have plenty color. Frankly, I don't think that matters at adjectives once they know where to find the 'nectar'. They're dive-bombing each other and combat over whose allowed to feed no matter how abundant feeders are out or how many feeding perch are on a feeder! Very aggressive and fresh, in spite of how sweet they look!
